ASPI surges past 22,000 mark with strong turnover

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) reached a new milestone as the ASPI surged above the 22,000 mark, closing at 22,094.89, supported by strong turnover and active volumes. Despite a modest decline of 13 points in the first half-hour, the market rebounded strongly with support from Banking and Diversified Financial sectors, which together contributed nearly 46% of total turnover, propelling the index to an all-time high of 22,128.76 during the session.

The ASPI advanced 143.10 points (+0.65%), while the S&P SL20 added 39.30 points (+0.64%) to 6,187.51, on a total turnover of LKR 9.75 Bn with 439.48 Mn shares changing hands.

Crossings accounted for LKR 2.54 Bn (26% of turnover), with LCBF.N leading both turnover and volume, recording LKR 877.50 Mn in turnover and 135 Mn shares traded.

Market breadth remained positive, although 101 gainers outpaced by 122 decliners. MELS.N led the gainers (+54.49 points), followed by SAMP.N, DIPD.N, HAYL.N, and COMB.N. CTHR.N was the largest drag (-12.10 points), alongside SFCL.N, HNB.N, CARS.N, and JKH.N.

Among notable trades, LCBF.N emerged as the day’s standout counter, posting LKR 1.41 Bn in turnover and closing with a 19.70% price gain, reflecting strong investor interest.
