AFC to help build modern football stadium in Sri Lanka

Colombo, April 4 (Daily Mirror) - Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said that steps will be taken, in conjunction with the Sports Ministry, to provide Sri Lanka with an international football stadium featuring modern facilities to promote the sport.

The AFC President, who is on a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka, held discussions with Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage at the Shangri-La Hotel on April 3.

Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Tillakaratne also attended the meeting.

Khalifa expressed confidence in Sri Lanka’s progress, noting that while many Asian countries are grappling with economic challenges and corruption, Sri Lanka is advancing due to the current government's efforts.

Sri Lanka Football Federation and his President and Office bearers are fully corrupted. They are brining in expat players from Europe and Austria to coverup the corruption. Players coming up from local schools and local clubs are disappointed and there dream to play for the national team is shattered and nips off from the begging. real and lasting development can come only by developing and given exposure and opportunity for local players to play in national and international level.

Expat players should be brought in if local players are bad. The team just beat Laos after 30 odd years. All Asian countries are using expat players.

Thanks to AFC let us FIRST have this modern football stadium built asap. As for the corruption in our SLFF if this is proved, time to sack the corrupt and call for applicants to fill their places on the BOARD. CORRUPTION HAS BEEN SPREADING LIKE WILD FIRES IN THE COUNTRY FROM POLITICIANS, PUBLIC SERVANTS, SPORTS AND THE LIKES FOR DECADES AND DECADES AND NOW IS THE TIME TO WIPE CORRUPTION OUT, SO THAT THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE CAN PROSPER.

Do we really need this stadium? It's obviously another mega project to launder money. Modernization, simply means high maintainance cost and high facility utilisation cost and this will ultimately burn people's money. It's just another elaborate scheme to pocket taxpayer money. Gota maybe gone but corruption will never leave this country.
