The '96 World champion's Team led by Arjuna Ranatunga won the toss and was elected to field first against the Sri Lankan Cricket Legends XI during a charity match in aid of the Baby Cheramy Big Heart Project at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo a short while ago.

The two teams to play the charity match include:

'96 Champion's Team

Arjuna Ranatunga (Captain), Aravinda de Silva, Sanatha Jayasuriya, Asanka Gurusinghe, Hashan Tilakaratne, Roshan Mahanama, Romesh Kaluwitarane, Upul Chandana, Chaminda Vaas, Pramodya Wickramasinghe, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Muttaiah Muralitharan

Sri Lankan Legends XI

Sidath Wettimuny (Captain), Thilan Samaraweera, Prasanna Jayawardene, Grame Labrooy, Brendon Kuruppu, Kapila Wijegunawardene, Hemantha Wickramaratne, Roger Wijesuriya, Asoka de Silva, Hemantha Devapriya, Ranjith Madurasinghe, Sanjeewa Weerasinghe and Erick Upashantha.

The result of the shows that Arjuna is far too fit and better than Sanath who scored just 1. Probably because Sanath has lost his backbone being a 'signal post' in government benches in parliament.

it would have been better id world champs bat first as Legends have capable players like Thilan who can score centuries against weaker teams. Weaker means Arjuna Aravinda, Sanath are not in form and old now.

hat is the basis for selection of Sri lankan legends.. Where is Roy Dias, Duleep, Romesh, de mel, Ranjan etc.. How can this team can be called Legends, as some of them have just played few matches for Sri Lanka.... Pls change the name at least... The Favorites XI
