90-day free on-arrival tourist visa for Sri Lankan citizens visiting Maldives

Colombo, July 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Government of the Maldives has announced that Sri Lankan citizens traveling to the Maldives for tourism purposes will be granted a free 90-day on-arrival tourist visa.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the state visit of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the Maldives,President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

This visa facility will take effect from July 29, 2025, and to obtain the visa, travellers must possess a valid passport and proof of sufficient financial means to cover their expenses during their stay in the Maldives.

This initiative is offered under the provisions of the bilateral agreement on visa facilitation between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and in accordance with Maldivian immigration laws and regulations.

The Maldivian Government stated that this action demonstrates its strong dedication to improving mutual cooperation and reinforces the importance it places on its relationship with Sri Lanka, the PMD said.

I always thought Lankans had visa free travel to Maldives. Their trash and recycling program is a wonderful example of how the country balances tourism, the economy and protecting their environment.

This is not new IMHO. I've visited maldives earlier this year and it was visa on arrival. We just needed to have a confirmed booking in a hotel and a return air ticket. Perhaps it was 30 day previously and is now 90 day.

This Pachanayake is an expert in creating deceptions. We already had 30day visa on arrival. Even 30 days is too long for a visit . Who would want to stay 90 days as a tourist. This is probably a reciprocal arrangement whereby those Msldivians could stay in Sri Lanka for 90 days. This achievement by Pachanayake is not even worth his air ticket expense.
