Colombo, August 4 (Daily Mirror) - Bhagwanthalawa, August 4 (Daily Mirror) - An eight-year-old boy tragically died yesterday after falling into a six-foot-deep toilet pit near his home in the Bhagwanthalawa Kiw Estate, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Helon Sasan, a Grade 3 student residing in the upper part of the estate. According to Bhagwanthalawa Police, the pit had been dug by his father to construct a toilet for their newly built house.
Initial investigations suggest that the child may have slipped and fallen into the pit, which had accumulated rainwater, while walking near it.
The father became concerned when the boy was missing and began searching for him. Around 5:00 p.m., he noticed a pair of his son's shoes near the pit. Upon checking inside, he found his son submerged and immediately sought help from neighbors to pull him out.
The child was rushed to the Dickoya Base Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the Bhagwanthalawa Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
