A 41-year-old shop-owner was arrested yesterday at Balangoda when he was found in possession of thirty pairs of shoes with the buckles in the form of the Dharmachakra, police said.

They said the shoes with their buckles in the shape of the Dharmachakra were displayed for sale at the time of raid.

The raid was conducted on a tip off received by the Balangoda police.

Police said the suspect is a resident of Dehigastalawa in Balangoda and that he would be be produced before the Balangoda Magistrate today. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

Interesting to note China being a Buddhist nation doesnt have an issue.. and why on earth is the seller arrested? The customs shouldnt have let this shipment be cleared in teh 1st place IF sentiments were being damaged. I hope the Judge uses common sense and ask to police to be POLICING and arresting CRIMINALS instead of wasting the time of the courts. Our court system already has a huge backlog where some cases have been going on for 30 or more years. I go to courts for a land case which is 32 yrs old.. And a 70 acre land is idling for no fault of US and revenue to the govt and employment to the people of the area has been denied coz of judicial lethargy...
