55,500 T-56 ammo buried by LTTE unearthed in Kilinochchi
Around 55,500 T-56 ammunition were found in the Korakkankattu area in Kilinochchi today, police said.
The Kilinochchi Police said some 1,500 ammunition were unearthed from the land during construction of a residence following information provided by the landowner on December 15.
Accordingly, further excavations were carried out as per a court order where the rest of the ammunitions totaling to 54,000 were unearthed.
Police suspect the cache of ammunition would have been buried by the LTTE during the war for future use.
The ammunition was handed over to the Kilinochchi STF personnel for disposal. (Romesh Madushanka)
