50 visitors fined for violating rules at Horton Plains National Park

Colombo, Oct.11 (Daily Mirror) - During the past week, authorities at Horton Plains National Park have issued spot fines to 50 individuals for violating park regulations, Park Warden Sisira Rathnayake said.

He said that strict action will be taken against those who stray from designated tracks, damage flora and biodiversity, or engage in any other prohibited activities within the park.

He further said that legal action will also be initiated against individuals who went off track to take photographs or videos and later shared them on social media platforms.

“In a national park, visitors are only allowed to observe animals and the environment. Engaging in illegal activities such as going off track, plucking flowers, or feeding animals is strictly prohibited.

Authorities have urged visitors to adhere to park regulations, especially amid a recent surge in tourists visiting Horton Plains to witness the rare blooming of the ‘Nelu’ flower.
