Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 50 foreign nationals have been arrested by officers of the Investigation Division of the Immigration and Emigration Department for overstaying their visas, authorities said.
The arrests were carried out on April 21 at a residence in Negombo, following intelligence received by the department’s Intelligence Unit and on the instructions of the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.
Among those arrested were 47 China nationals, two Malaysia nationals and one India national. Officials said they had entered the country on business visas but had remained illegally after their visas expired.
The group is currently being held at the Welisara Detention Centre and is scheduled to be deported in due course, authorities said.
