These are not economic refugees BUT people who have been so poorly treated by successive SL Government merely because another race. This is the very reason for UNHCR edict that was passed on recently despite great reluctance from SL. These people have endured all manner of disrespectful treatment by the SL forces. When they are treated like third rate citizens in their very place of birth of their ancestors. Is it any surprise they look across the oceans to make a peaceful life elsewhere for their families?

Hard times for Sri Lankans to sustain their livelihoods. These people are trying to leave these shores by hook or by crook and we brand them illegal when lot of illegal things are happening from top to bottom at least these people are not murderers or rogues like our politicians who are prospective earners of foreign currency to fend for their families in Sri Lanka as now the poor and middle classes are beggars have struck rock bottom whilst the rogues and scam earners are having a livelihood as the saying goes live and let live

They are not criminals, just desperate people who probly sold everything they have to try find a better life, there are hardly any jobs for alot of people, how can they feed their families, instead of just arresting, help them find work

These people go through much hardship in Jaffna that people in other parts of the country will not understand. How desperate can people be to pay smugglers, risk their children's lives and their own lives to get out of Sri Lanka.
