Colombo, March 04 (Daily Mirror) - The water levels of 44 reservoirs out of the 73 main reservoirs have started spilling due to the heavy rains received in the catchment areas over the past few days, the Irrigation Department said.
Accordingly, the Senanayake Samudraya, Maha Kangarawa, Nuwara Wewa, Mahavilachchiya, Malwathu Oya, Rukam Tank, Lunugamvehera, Baggiriya, Weeravila, Kirindi Oya, Manik Ganga, and Weheragala reservoirs are currently releasing a considerable amount of water into the rivers.
The Irrigation Department expects a dry season in the coming days, which would reduce the need to release water from the reservoirs.
Therefore, the department has urged people living in low-lying areas to be vigilant when using river water.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department stated that the prevailing showery conditions over the island are expected to ease from today (4).
Showers or thundershowers may occur in a few places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, during the evening or night.
Additionally, a few showers may occur in the eastern coastal areas in the morning.
