41 deported illegal SL immigrants arrive

A group of 41 illegal Sri Lankan immigrants who were arrested and deported by Australian authorities arrived at the Katunayake International Airport this morning.

They had travelled by sea on board multiday fishing trawlers, only to be arrested in their attempt to enter Australia. They had been detained on Christmas Island pending deportation.

Investigations revealed that the majority of them were from the Jaffna and Valaichchenai areas.

Three senior officials of the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka were at Katunayake International Airport to hand over the group to the Sri Lankan Immigration and Emigration Authorities.

The suspects were to be handed over to the CID unit at the Katunayake International Airport and produced before the Negombo magistrate after preliminary investigations conducted by the National Intelligence authorities. (T.K.G.Kapila)

Poor people and have mercy on them and they went to make living now ended in this situation...how many of them may have lost their money and houses ..? It is not their fault but the fault of all those who sent them with falsely promise

You can't blame these poor people who are just looking for a better life for themselves and their families. They survived a dangerous sea voyage and were imprisoned in a deportation camp. For this they have also paid a lot of money to unscrupulous human traffickers. These people should not be brought before a court here in Sri Lanka. They've been through enough bad things. Blame it on our politicians who have ruthlessly ruined this country for selfish reasons since independence. After independence, Sri Lanka was doing much better economically than Singapore. And what about today? Have you ever heard of a Singapore citizen trying to enter another country illegally for economic reasons?

The Ceylon Tamil was empowered during British colonialism and was exported to countries like Malaya, Singapore and experienced many benefits. Now they are trying to get into English speaking countries to experience this empowerment and become millionaires and billionaires like many Tamils in Canada, Australia, UK, US etc. This exodus has to be prevented because rich overseas Tamils are a threat to the sovereignty and dominance of us shingala peoples

Australia has just increased the intake of immigrants from overseas into the country as well as relaxed the rules due to the shortage of skilled labour in the country post pandemic Currently there are many job opprtunities in varoius fields in Australia and there is no need to risk one's life and try to enter the country by boat illegally as an asylum seeker provided you have the necessary skills and basic qualifications. It was so tough 36 yeas ago when I decided to move to Australia wth my family

It is for sure that these people were told it’s easy to migrate to Australia by some powerful people could be Politicos, Security people and under hand guys and raked up millions of rupees from their savings, sale of their possessions like houses, land, jewellery ect.
