40 rescued from flood-trapped bus at Kala Oya

At least 40 people, including a foreign woman, have been rescued from a bus swept by floodwaters on the Kala Oya Bridge along the Anuradhapura–Puttalam road.

The bus, carrying around 60 passengers, was forced to stop as rising floodwaters swept it off course, and passengers sought refuge on the roof of a nearby house. Evacuation was not possible last night due to dangerously high water levels.

Rescue efforts are still ongoing to evacuate the remaining individuals.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake personally overseeing the operation to ensure the safe evacuation of those stranded.
