Colombo, Dec. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Health authorities have launched 1,190 continuous raids across the country to identify vendors selling unsafe and unsuitable food during the festive season.
Union Secretary Chamil Muthukuda said that legal action has already been initiated against nearly 375 shops found selling food unfit for human consumption during recent inspections.
He added that around 1,800 Public Health Inspectors have been deployed islandwide to carry out the inspections and ensure food safety standards are maintained.
Muthukuda urged members of the public to report any instances of unsafe or unsuitable food to the Ministry of Health hotline 1926 or to their area Public Health Inspector.
