36 vendors face legal action for violating CAA Act

Colombo, April 9 (Daily Mirror) - Officers attached to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) have taken legal action against 36 vendors found to be conducting sales in violation of the CAA Act.

The raids were conducted as part of a special programme launched by the CAA for the festive season, with increased focus on monitoring sales activities across the island.

During the programme, special raids and investigations were carried out, paying particular attention to businesses suspected of inflating the prices of clothing and electrical appliances.

CAA officers have been instructed to place greater emphasis on these issues during upcoming inspections.

The CAA reminds traders that when selling goods, especially during 'sales', the consumers must be provided with a six-month warranty for electrical appliances. Vendors are also warned not to mislead consumers under any circumstances.

Consumers are advised to make informed decisions when purchasing goods and to always request a receipt, which will be essential for any future claims or complaints.

To ensure fair treatment of consumers in the marketplace, the Consumer Affairs Authority continues to carry out investigations, raids and awareness programmes to educate both traders and the public.
