Colombo, July 24 (Daily Mirror) - Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni revealed today that 36,000 cancer patients have been admitted to the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama within the first six months of this year, from January to June 30, 2025.

The Minister told Parliament that 6,700 new patients have been registered with the hospital from January 1 to June 30, 2025.

Responding to a question by SJB MP Chamindrani Kiriella, the Minister said an average of 950 to 1,000 patients attend clinics daily.

Cancer is on increase all worldwide : It is mainly due to our food and we need three time cabs. Morning Rotti, puttu or something to do with the flour items ? Launch with a rice ball and dinner is also same like that. What do you expect from these people ? Nothing but mutilation of cells and DNA ? Our people are addicted to a bad food culture . Educational programs should be done from our schools and community based places.
