35 more asylum seekers sent back from Australia

A group of 35 Sri Lankan asylum seekers who had gone to Australia from the southern seas were sent back on Saturday night.

The group comprising youth from Matara, Mirissa, Kalutara, Wadduwa and Maggona have been sent from Cocos and Christmas islands in a special flight. Over the week 128 Sri Lankan asylum seekers have been sent from Australia. (Deepa Adikari)

Australia has become the number one holiday destination for many Sri Lankans who come by boat and cannot afford to fly legally.Unfortunately they would be able to visit only Cocos Island and Christmas Island and probably spend sometime in the Pacific Island of Nauru in Papua New Guinea courtesy of the Australian tax-payer.
