Colombo, June 1 (Daily Mirror) - A stock of 3.650 kilos of heroin was seized and the suspect was arrested by Veyangoda police during a raid on the suspect’s house at Niwala area on Saturday evening.
Interrogation of the suspect revealed that the street value of the stock is more than Rs.70 million. Police said the 25 year old suspect had been carrying on the racket for quite some time under the pretext of textile trade.
During the raid, the police had seized the van transporting the heroin, electronic weighing equipment, seven mobile phones and cash to the value of Rs. 500,000 which the suspect had in his possession at the time of arrest.
Police who had carried out the raid on information received from a private informant, first checked the van to find a part of the stock of heroin and the rest from his house.
A police team under OIC Veyangoda Police CI Asanka Rangana had carried out the raid on the instructions of ASP Prasad Fernando and SSP Jagath Rohana.
The suspect was to be produced before Attanagalla Magistrate last morning.
