It has been proposed to hold the 2023 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examinations during a period between November 27 to December 21, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
An announcement in this regard will be made soon, he said.
"We will make our maximum effort to finish the exams during the December school holidays, which starts at the end of November, without disturbing the school's education," the Minister said.
The 2023 GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) exam will be held before the Sinhala/Tamil New Year. That will be announced by the Examinations Department.
Meanwhile, the Minister said a total of 3.4 million exam papers had to be evaluated. The evaluation of exam scripts will be completed by the end of July. There are several practical exams to be held, and the Ministry is hoping to start them by the first week of August.
The teachers who attended the evaluation of answer scripts in the first round will attend the second round as well. With the start of the second round, again there will be a disturbance to the teaching practices in schools as qualified teachers engage with that. The country is unaware of this.
Before the end of August, the Ministry will be able to release the A/L exam results, Minister Premajayantha assured. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
