The Examinations Department has decided to postpone the 2022 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) Examination and grade five scholarship examination.

Accordingly, the 2022 GCE A/L examination will be held from January 23 to February 17 next year (2023).

The grade five scholarship examination will be held on December 18 (Sunday) this year.

The decision was taken after considering the requests made by the students and public representatives.

However, the A/L examination is scheduled to be held on December 5 and the grade five scholarship examination on December 4, this year.

The Examinations Department also said that the decision to postpone the exams was taken for the benefit of the candidates. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Cannot see benefit of Grade 5 scholarship postponement by two weeks. Parents who really unethical could come up with excuse child sick and keep them away from school and have them until the exam study and get private tuition everyday too. If child gets into big school what is missing two months in old school.

Grade 5 exam is a must and it is a right of a child to find a better school. So, many parents do their best expecting better prospects for their Children. Banning tests until grade 5, to be implemented by Susil is a crime as it is absurd. Let the parents to decide whether their children, needed to be sat, to gauge their children's weaknesses to improve those, later. Banning tests won't improve education, but a saving for a government.

DM does great work putting up articles. Can't be perfect where every media website is trying to output the hot news. Your expect like textbook, which would takes many more staff checking, when you should double check/check elsewhere for accuracy when you first hear of it, if unsure... Being made aware about the happening is great!

What difference did the not so well article do to your action, other than having you confused. Did you decide to stop your child from studying for two weeks? Maybe you should study to get IELTS level 8, then easier to work out information that's not perfect.`

Postponement for the benefit of the candidates is bullshitting the candidates and their parents. This will delay them going to University. Further when studying the students have their own plans on how to complete the syllabuses. all that will be put in jeopardy. Olden days a doctor passed out at the age of 24 and now it is 28-30

@Man There is something thoroughly wrong with our culture where the bottom 50%, half of grade five scholarship test takers might more likely go please middle eastern family as housemaid and drivers. Or take up three-wheeler job. Rather than run around to try get the top 5-10% better off, since those students with parent support will do well anyway, the lower half of students have to assisted for the longer term. If in Grade 5 they look going nowhere, maybe earlier entry into vocational education, even at 13 or 14 years age gives them better prospect. They can then get better trade qualification and seek to migrate overseas (without even having degree).
