17 passengers including children sustain injuries when van veers off road in Ramboda



Colombo, May 14 (Daily Mirror) - At least 17 persons including seven children sustained injuries and were hospitalised when the van they were travelling in had veered off the road and plunged into a roadside precipice in Ramboda this afternoon, the police said.

A group of residents from Rajangana in Anuradhapura who were on a leisure trip were travelling from Nuwara Eliya to Gampola when they had met with the accident at the RB Section in Ramboda.

According to the Police Media Desk, no fatalities have been reported thus far and the casualties have been rushed to the Gampola and Kotmale Hospitals.

The Toyota Hiace model van had sustained serious damage when it veered off the road and plunged into a lower land before crashing against a tree.

The fatal bus tragedy that claimed over 20 lives in the Gerandi Ella area, is also situated in the same police area. 

The Kotmale Police Traffic Branch is conducting inquiries into the accident.
