14 Sri Lankans severely affected by Turkey earthquakes, 1 reported missing

Fourteen Sri Lankans have been severely affected by the deadly earthquakes which killed thousands in Turkey, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardana said.

He said 13 Sri Lankans are reported to be safe and one Sri Lankan national is reported missing.

The Minister also expressed condolence to all the victims on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and its people.

More than 4,300 people were killed and 15,000 injured in Turkey and over the border in Syria when the quake struck in the early hours of Monday.

The World Health Organization has warned the toll may rise dramatically as rescuers find more victims. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
