136 foreigners arrested for overstaying

During a special raid launched countrywide last Sunday night, the police arrested 136 foreigners from 15 countries for overstaying in the country thus violating their visa conditions.

Police said the raid was conducted from 10:00 p.m. on Sunday to 6:00 a.m. yesterday under the direction of the Acting IGP.

During the raid, the police arrested 82 Indians, 12 Pakistanis, 10 Maldivians, eight Nigerians, six Bangladeshis, four Chinese, four Canadians, two Taiwanese, two Swiss nationals, an American, a Qatari, a Sweden national, an Afghan, an Israeli and a Korean. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
