Twelve students of the Peradeniya University have been suspended over the assault on former Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University Prof. Athula Senaratne and his son.

University’s deputy vice chancellor and media spokesman Terrence Madujith said they were identified through CCTV footages installed in his official residence.

Investigation is underway to identify the other students involved in the incident.

Very good. Discipline should be maintained. No one can take the law into their hands. It’s the duty of the police even though, the police force acts far below standards expected. It’s due to political appointments and educational standards not considered.

You give free education to these nattami's and the peace loving, civilised children never want to get into local universities and go overseas spending large sums of dollars, We tax payers spend billions and billions to produce thugs with no use in local universities with free education. This culture needs change. 5 Years should be the maxium a student should be given and the next batch should be in. Politics should be completely stopped and no picketting while you are a undergraduate. High time to put these goons in place before we talk of a handful in parliament

I really appreciate this initiative to investigate and punish all those who are involved in this attack....some students go beyond the limit to behave badly in the university...95% of them are good but we see how badly they treat new students ...? Now they have started to attack even VCs ...we should know what happened exactly but students should not have power to take laws into their hands? Generally speaking the students and staff relation in our university is very good but I don't why and how this kind of attack take place ..there must be some issues that we don't know ..there is no smoke without fire ..so there must be some reasons to this attack. So we can't be Judgmental till a through investigation is done

The problems with the son is far bigger than the cover up done by the university big heads. Often the university staff are asking for sexual favours and bribes, just like so much corruption to allow for school entry to big schools. There is nothing special about the university here, it is the terrible attitudes of the university staff which has brought the economic problems to this nation. Their future with hearing vileness towards them is only going to much worse.
