1,600 Meta, 60-70 WhatsApp cyber crimes recorded in SL: SLCERT

Colombo, Feb 03 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Cyber Emergency Readiness Team’s (SLCERT) Senior Information Engineer, Charuka Damunupolla revealed that during the last year approximately 1,600 Meta and 60-70 WhatsApp cyber crime related incidents have been recorded in Sri Lanka.

He said these are predominantly due to unknown and unwanted messages; help requests and other kinds of requests coming over Meta and its messaging platform.

“People without thinking twice respond and fall into trouble”, he highlighted.

In a bid for remedy, Damunupolla said users ought to be aware, alert and have their settings reviewed regularly.
