1,241 individuals arrested within a day for drug-related offenses
Colombo, July 21 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 1,241 individuals were arrested for drug-related offenses, including illegal alcohol during a special operations conducted yesterday covering the entire island, Police said.
A large amount of drugs, including 254,679 milligrams of ice, 112,567 milligrams of heroin and 3,738,356 milligrams of cannabis were seized.
More than 5,300 persons, including police officers, Special Task Force and members of the tri-forces, participated in the operation from across the island where 21,132 individuals, 7,922 vehicles and 6,545 motorcycles were checked.
Five firearms were also seized, including a firearm manufactured in a foreign country.
In addition, 18 persons who were identified as directly involved in crimes were also arrested during these special raids.
In addition, 321 warrants have been issued on individuals for various offenses.
