A woman who had admitted herself to the maternity ward of the Kalubowila Hospital after appearing as a pregnant woman was later discovered to have stuffed her clothes to appear 8-9 months pregnant. Two suspects including a woman appearing as her mother were handed over to the police by hospital authorities after the hoax came to light

A seahorse 11 inches in length was recovered from the sea off Kalpitiya by local fishermen. Seahorses which have been recovered from Sri Lankan waters are usually 2 inches in length but this specimen which is 11 inches is believed to be the longest seahorse recovered from the area. An Arab tourist who severely sexually assaulted an eighteen year old boy at a hotel in Negombo was remanded by the Negombo Magistrate till the 11th of March. The suspect who has arrived as a tourist had assaulted the victim on the 23rd of February.
