Colombo, April 10 (Daily Mirror) - The State Ministry of Home Affairs today declared April 15 as a Public (government) holiday for all state employees, Ministry Secretary Pradeep Yasarathna said.

Nice so many holidays we will develop so fast, even developed nations will be shocked !!! .

I know that I will attract criticism from some people who read this comment. But how can we progress like this? Holiday after holiday. On top of that, say if Thursday were a holiday, most people would apply for leave on Friday and enjoy a four-day holiday. Even on a typical working day, how many employees commit themselves and deliver results in Sri Lanka? Think rationally. Can a country progress like this? It is all about holidays and demanding employee rights!

Yesterday you said no it won't be a holiday and to day you change your statement. Please make your minds before making statements to the public. Who know tomorrow what you may say.

What was the delay in announcing it. It should have been done beginning of this year. Modayas.

Why don't you shut down for the entire month and after that you could ask them to stay home forever with no pay which will be very beneficial to our country.

Good . Anyway nothing happens at most of the Govt offices.

The country with most holidays. Hahaha

    Ram Thursday, 11 April 2024 02:36 AM

Sri Lanka is the only country with that many public holidays. No country can prosper with that many public holidays. To win the people's votes close down the country altogether!

    Sobers Thursday, 11 April 2024 06:30 AM

Very stupid decision. Already, our public service has been categorised as very poor standard.like declaring Chinese New year holidays, follow the system by giving leave for 5 days or so and cut down on other unnecessary public holidays.

April 15 as a Public (government) holiday: A shameful decision as most citizens would like to work. Also, a pathetic Minister for wasting taxpayers money.

    Sokrates Thursday, 11 April 2024 08:44 AM

because the state employees are completely overworked and don't have enough vacation. The minister, who was probably completely overloaded with work himself, made a very wise and economically forward-looking decision. Bravo, this is the only way Sri Lanka can move forward.

just because some stupid astrologer said oil should be anointed on 15th. Why don't you anoint oil on Sunday-14th and come to work on Monday 15th

    kapila Thursday, 11 April 2024 09:26 AM

why not the private sector, they also anoint oil on the same day

GERIATRIC TAX PAYER 48 YEARS - RETIRED WITHOUT PENSION FROM PRIVATE SECTOR Thursday, 11 April 2024 03:12 PM

Private Sector Bank Employees are NOT Citizens of Sri Lanka. Ha! HAA!! No one talks about the Shop and Office Act. Why aren't these employees covered by this Act granted half holiday in lieu of Statutory Holiday on Saturday? Has the Shop and Office Act been scrapped now? No in-lieu holidays for Bank Employees last year too as well on 5th February this year. Against Human Rights Violations, Government Employees can go directly to Supreme Court whereas Private Sector Employees have to go to Labour Commissioner/Department. Why 'Double Standards'??? Even on 15th - coming Monday - Private Sector Bank Employees WORK EARN AND PAY INCOME TAX to subsidise the enjoyment of a Holiday by Public Sector Employees!

Why not name it Avurudhu Charity Holiday for the Government Servants?

Jagath Perera Friday, 12 April 2024 07:18 AM

Select only staff who are able to work 4 hours a day to the offices. Suggest offer all other public service full time leave during the year. They can celebrate the new year and full moon during at home.
