Health authorities in Lindula performed PCR tests on 91 employees in the government livestock farm in Dayagama and found 37 of them infected.
Lindula MOH Dr. Jagath Abeygunaratne said steps were taken to perform PCR tests on 91 employees when two employees in the farm had contracted the virus and taken ill. He said those infected included four individuals from a nearby estate employed in the livestock farm.
The administration had taken steps to deploy substitute workers from other government farms in the area to run the business of the livestock farm uninterrupted.
A senior official of the estate said the labourers had run away when lightening hit an iron post in the estate but several of them had been injured.
