The accurate operating methods of a motor vehicle and technical knowhow on long-term maintenance are the themes of the Defensive Driving workshop held once again by Associated Motorways (Private) Limited (AMW) recently at its head office auditorium situated at No. 185, Union Place, Colombo 2.
AMW shortlisted 70 participants for this session. Participants of this intensive training program gained useful knowledge on driving skills which deviate from mundane driving methods. Defensive driving techniques to minimize mishaps, internationally accepted norms of operating a motor vehicle, saving fuel with the correct driving patterns, knowledge on operating modern vehicles along with proper maintenance procedures, tackling minor mechanical and electrical niggles and also on making a habit of reading road signs and complying with the highway code while driving were the main topics discussed at this workshop.
All participants had the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge on owning and operating a motor vehicle as well as share their experiences and thoughts with other participants and the trainer. AMW’s spokesperson emphasized on the fact that driving a vehicle is not only about adhering to the road rules, but a concerted exercise incorporating one’s knowledge and skills.
Being in the forefront of community service in Sri Lanka, AMW has organised this event for the benefit of the motoring fraternity of this country. AMW Marketing and Promotions Manager for Suzuki Vehicles Wickum Chandra commented, “When driving a vehicle on public roads, it is the moral obligation of all concerned to do so in a concentrated, understanding and responsible manner. Being the pioneer and the leader in the automotive industry in Sri Lanka, we feel that it is our duty and responsibility to organise events like this to educate the public.”
