More than 200 poultry fowls have been killed when a lorry transporting them along the Minneriya - Hingurakgoda Main Road veered off the road and toppled near the Kothalawala Junction last morning (29).
The police said that the lorry had veered off the road because of a punctured tyre.
It was transporting the fowls to Kantale according to the police.
There had been about 600 birds in the lorry at the time of the mishap, exceeding the allowed weight, the police officers said. (K.G. Karunarathna)
