The Navy seized a stock of 1,340 kilogrammes of turmeric and 800 packets of glyphosate smuggled into the country by sea and arrested three suspects during a raid in the Daluwa beach in Kalpitiya early yesterday. The officials had seized the boat used by the suspects and a lorry which was ready to transport the stock of contraband. Senior officials of the Thambapanni Naval Base in Puttalam said the trade value of the stock of turmeric could have been around Rs. 10 million while the value of the stock of glyphosate was yet to be estimated.
