The Election Commission (EC) is expected to give the green light for election monitors from the Commonwealth and the European Union to oversee the presidential election.
EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya informed the political parties in writing that his office had already approved observers from the Commonwealth while the European Union had expressed interest in|sending its observers.
Local election monitors, the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) and Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) have been authorized by the EC to monitor the elections while the Association of Asian Election Authorities has sought to send observers.
