Say the Govt should spend funds to meet people’s needs, fight Covid; not on polls`

The Mahasangha of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters had stressed that the Government should not attempt to hold the Provincial Council Elections at this crucial juncture when the country was going through the Coronavirus pandemic crisis.
During a meeting with the Collective of National Organisations (Jatika Sanvidhana Ekamutuwa) Anunayake of the Malwatte Chapter Ven. Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma There said the need of the hour was to give priority to public health and providing relief to the people facing hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Ven. Thera also stressed that the Government should not waste public funds on the Provincial Council Elections regardless of the prevailing economic crisis.
The Chief Lekakadhikari of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Dr Medagama Dhammananda Thera pointed out that the decision to hold the Provincial Council Elections was a short-sighted step.
He said that holding the PC elections was not an urgent need and that it could be held when the country was back to normal.
The Jathika Sanvidhana Ekamutuwa was represented by Dean of the Faculty of Sinhala of the Kelaniya University Ven. Dr Malwane Chandrarathana and Senior Lecturer Ven Dr Kapugolle Ananda Kitthi Thera.
