Heavy falls up to 100 mm could be expected at some places in the Western and the Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, The Department of Meteorology forecast yesterday.
It said the current showery conditions over the island particularly in the southwestern part is likely to enhance to some extent during the next few days due to a low pressure area forming over the south west Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman sea area.
”It is likely to intensify further and move north-westwards,” it said.
Moreover, the department said showers or thundershowers would occur in the Southern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and showers or thundershowers would also occur in the Uva province and in the Ampara district in the evening or night.
The department requested people living in hilly areas (particularly landslide prone areas) to be vigilant.
Meanwhile, naval and fishing communities were also advised not to venture into the eastern deep sea area and deep and shallow sea areas extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota from last evening.
