Fifty-eight Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s (SLPP) ex-provincial council members contested the General Election and 28 were elected to Parliament, SLPP founder Basil Rajapaksa said.
Mr Rajapaksa expressed these views while speaking at a ceremony held at the Grand Monarch Hotel to felicitate SLPP Provincial Council Members who were elected as Parliamentarians at the General Election.
Mr. Rajapaksa handed over a memento to SLPP MP Akhila Saliya Ellawala at the ceremony held recently. In addition to the ex MPs in Badulla, Puttalam and Polonnaruwa, the remaining newly elected MPs are former SLPP Provincial Councillors.
Among the newly elected MPs are former Chief Ministers, Provincial Ministers and Provincial Councillors.
