The All Ceylon National Bhikshu Forum (ACNBF) today requested President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister Sajith Premadasa to render their support to nominate Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as the national candidate in the upcoming Presidential Election.

Speaking to the media at the National Library today, the Chief Incumbent of Tantirimale Vihara Venerable Tantirimale Chandrarathna said that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was the most appropriate person to be the national candidate at the Presidential Election.

“Considering the criteria, we request Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to come forward as the national candidate in the upcoming Presidential Election," the Thera said.

“We think the Speaker is the most appropriate person among the candidates who hope to come forward as a national candidate,” he said.

“The common candidate should rule this country and take the middle path according to the Buddha’s teachings,” he said.

He said:

“Our Sinhala Buddhist country owns a history of more than a thousand years and the upcoming national leadership should live up to it. When comes to national leadership, that person should know the history, culture of the country should be a genuine person, well experienced and should be a person who can work with the people with humanity. The leadership should be able to work with the latest development projects in the country and well knowledgeable person.” (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Karu is a honest gentleman but to old. The country needs young blood. The orange mob should keep out of politics.

"Our Sinhala Buddhist country owns a history of more than a thousand years " Reminds me of Lorna Dewaraja's book as well.

Working on as agenda. They first gave the lame duck a sort of honor and now working on the next phase. This is to support the bud. Any fool can understand this. The UNP supports and the party leadership will decide and not these monks.

Three cheers to Karu. Untainted gentlement.

    Anmanpan Thursday, 11 July 2019 04:45 PM

Sorry, there will be no common candidate. We need a candidate for the common man, not the other way around. Sorry and may the triple gem bless all these guys.

    Anmanpan Thursday, 11 July 2019 04:47 PM

Ah! Karu, a one time vaulter. Now these guys want the UNP leadership to support. I see that secret hand with a bud.

    Puravasiya Thursday, 11 July 2019 05:11 PM

This is the best proposal and Karu is the right candidate who has no corruption allegations, held many important positions and matured. Also, announce SF is the new minister for defence, law

    Kaush Thursday, 11 July 2019 05:24 PM

When can we expect a young national leader who can change the current system and develop the country? Most of the developed countries have already done that.

    Nayana Thursday, 11 July 2019 05:28 PM

Real and True Leader who had shown his potential with UNP's requirement of O/L qualification is Mr. GOTABAYA RAJAPAKSHA.

    Ralston. N Thursday, 11 July 2019 06:01 PM

He is strong, mature and has great wisdom. Best choice under prevailing situation. My vote is for him

    Dhammika Thursday, 11 July 2019 06:01 PM

Karu is TOO old . SL needs a YOUNG , ENERGETIS and a HONEST leader , NOT PENSIONERS .

    Jude Thursday, 11 July 2019 06:53 PM

People have very short memory!!? Karu and His Son-in-law Navin D.was one time Stooges of MR Regime !!! Therefore, Karu doesn't deserve !!! Clearly it should be Sajith Premadasa!!! ONLY SAJITH can take UNP to Promise land !!! Yeah!!

Damith Rajapaksha. Thursday, 11 July 2019 07:31 PM

Gotabaya Rajapaksha Sir, Sajith Sir , Sarath fonseka Sir are capable personalities for the post of president. Sleepy, party changed business personalities won't do the purpose. Monks cant decide the rulers. They must keep their opinion to them. We can protect our country.

    Manel Thursday, 11 July 2019 10:32 PM

This is another ploy by RW to stay in power as party leader and leader of opposition after losing the election, no way people going to vote for this Karu

NATO Jayasuriya Thursday, 11 July 2019 11:27 PM

Karu is a weak Leader. As the Speaker he appointed a Committee to inquire into the incidents where thugs ran amock and caused damage to Parliamentary property including the Speaker's Chair in October 2018. Where is the Committee Report and was any action taken thereon?

George Harry Friday, 12 July 2019 12:11 AM

Intelligent people know that to whom they must vote.

    Rp Friday, 12 July 2019 03:11 AM

Wise choice indeed. Man with integrity and discipline. Truly a gentleman and capable of running our country without all those nuisance and hullabaloo. I second that!

    Ram Friday, 12 July 2019 04:54 AM

If Karu can put the record straight or the country of the correct footing then the young blood can take over. Leadership in the correct direction sans corruption is necessary
