Letters have been sent yesterday to the striking railway workers considering them as having vacated their posts, Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said the relevant letters were sent through their respective sub-department heads.
"The department was not informed by the strikers about their trade union action. Not reporting to work for 48 hours without issuing prior notice will be considered as having vacated their posts," he said.
The railway workers were on strike from last week demanding the implementation of the cabinet's decision which was subsequently approved by the Cabinet on May 18, 2018, to rectify their salary anomalies. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

First manage with forces, then get help from India in re structuring the SL railway. Ensure no recruiting of siblings of striking staff.

Silly Govt. in Sri Lanka. How can state employees go on strike when they are employed by the Govt. and paid by public taxes. There should be a rule to ban Govt employees going on strike.

Truth is, without railway technical staff, trains not going to run. Army personal won't even be able to start a train engine.
