A special traffic plan will be implemented on Sunday restricting vehicular movement in and around Colombo in view of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, Police said.
They said the Katunayake - Colombo Expressway (E03), the Peliyagoda Flyover and several other roads leading to the Presidential Secretariat would be closed from 11 am to 12.00 noon.
The Police said the following roads would be affected: Katunayake - Colombo Expressway (E03), Peliyagoda flyover, Orugodawatte Junction, Dematagoda Junction, Baseline Road from Borella Junction to the Borella Cemetry, the road from D.S. Senanayake Junction in Borella to Horton Place, Nelum Pokuna Roundabout, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Public Library Roundabout, Dharmapala Mawatha (Pittala Junction), Sir James Pieris Mawatha, Kumaran Ratnam Road, Sir Chittampalam A Gardiner Mawatha, Sir Baron Jayatilaka Mawatha, Reclamation Road, Lotus Road, Banku Mawathe, Janadhipathi Mawatha and Galle Road from Galle Face Roundabout towards the Old Parliament.
The Janadhipathi Mawatha, Banku Mawatha, York Street, Sir Chittampalam A Gardiner Mawatha, Kumaran Ratnam Road, Sir James Pieris Mawatha, Flower Road, Thurstan Road (until Thummulla) would be closed from 1.45 pm to 3.00 pm.
The Dharmapala Mawatha, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Nelum Pokuna Roundabout, Horton Place, D.S. Senanayake Junction-Borella Baseline Road through Dematagoda and Orugodawatta and Katunayake - Colombo Expressway would be closed from 2.30 pm - 3.30 pm.
The police advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid the traffic and requested motorists travelling from Galle Road to get to the Kandy Road through the Cemetery Roundabout at Thummulla Junction and then along the Parliament Road, Battaramulla, Kaduwela and Biyagama.
Motorists travelling from Galle and Matara areas could get to Kadawatha through the Southern Expressway (E01).
The police said motorists who are travelling from Colombo Central and Colombo Northern areas could reach the Airport or Kandy Road by travelling through the Victoria Bridge or Kadirana Bridge.
The police also advised air passengers to get to the airport as early as possible due to these traffic arrangements. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
