Intending to enhance the English learning skills in schoolchildren, the Education Ministry has decided to provide smart classrooms for every school in the country by 2022.
An event in this regard was held in Galle yesterday with participation of Education Minister G.L Peiris and several other officials.
Under the programme, a total of 200 schools in the Southern Province will be equipped with smart classrooms, the Minister said.
Accordingly, the first phase of the programme was launched by the Minister to establish 100 smart classrooms in the Galle District. Parallel to the event, an agreement was signed to establish another 100 smart classrooms in the Matara District.
More than 500,000 students from 852 schools country-wide have joined this programme, he said.
This programme has already been implemented in schools in the North, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Central Provinces, the Minister added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

but implement it without disparity. access to uninterrupted internet, availability of smart phones to all students, cyber security and cyber bullying and many more needs to be considered. what happened to the inclusive education? Education for all? thirteen years of compulsory education? Development of at least three vocational skills by the time a student leave school? Great policies but implementation!!!!!!

Prof. Please educate me on this . Currently at best the internet penetration is 40% . So by stating that every school will have smart classrooms by 2022 you are assuring that SL will have 100% internet access . Bravo .. We shall wait for 2022 and remind you to tender your resignation if this does not happen.
