Six Indians were arrested by the CID officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake today while they were allegedly attempting to smuggle out gold worth Rs.17 million out of the country, police said.
Four Indians were arrested at around 5.20 in the morning at the BIA with 1.060 kilogrammes of gold. The other two Indians were arrested at around 1.55 in the afternoon while in possession of 1.370 kilogrammes of gold.
It was revealed that the six Indians had arrived in the country on tourist visas and were on their way back to India when they were arrested.
The arrested suspects were handed over to Customs officials.
