As promised by the President during his election campaign, the Government is not in a status of signing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement, Education Minister Prof. G.L Pieris said.
He said that the President spoke about a direct policy which is being implemented to save the country.
"We know that the people of some of the signatory countries who have signed the MCC agreement, had become workers. With that risk, the President mentioned the reason as to why he would not not sign the MCC." the Minister said.
The opposition also claimed that the Government would sign the agreement secretly. Now they are claiming even if it is abolished, the Government would agree to it in some other way," Minister Pieris said.
As a Government, the President, is firm on his decision not to sign the MCC agreement, the Minister added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

If the president was not planing on signing the MCC compact, he should have addressed his opposition to it before it was withdrawn by the MCC. That didn't happen. He was silence so was the others.

That’s too bad. We could really use those dollars now. Transportation improvements would help save lives. And how wonderful it would be if there were a functional, transparent system for managing land ownership.

There is no MCC to sign now when it was withdrawn by the principals. Foolish GL trying to make Gota a hero when the opponent dies of natural course. Why not he throws a party and bestow him with a Medal and a title like Mahaa Weera.

This money offer was withdrawn by the MCC at a board meeting on December 15th. However, this money was authorized by a act of congress and now they have to take it congress again to give it to a another recipient. There is no shortage of free money recipient in the world.
