The President's Office today requested people not to invite President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for private functions such as weddings, saying his daily duties revolve around resolving the problems faced by the people.

In a statement, the Presidential Media Division said the President was keen to expedite development projects for the betterment of the people and to resolve issues faced by them on the grassroots level.

“As such please refrain from inviting the President for functions such as prize-givings, weddings and other parties since the President is not expecting to take part in these functions other than spending time in fulfilling national responsibilities,” the statement said.

It said many people invite the President to these functions, to be a part of a special day of their lives, due to the respect they have towards the President.

“The President appreciates the impression the people have of him. However, the President is determined to commit each hour he gets, when not engaged in official duties, for the betterment of the people,” the PMD said.(Lahiru Pothmulla)

Avery good decision, and now we have a president with vision for the country. However, Rajapaksha clan is not allowing the president become decision maker in major decision pertaining the country.

A good thing has to be appreciated! Well done and also there should be a monitoring and scrutinizing has to be in place for MPs and Ministers how do they spend their official time.

This is really a good gesture by the President as he does not want to be rude or disrespect people by not accepting the invitation but politely asking them to understand what his priorities are. His time should not be wasted in weddings.

As if we care! Who cares? I personally don’t care. I don’t want and will never entertain a politician at any of my parties, get togethers or functions. I have never done so either in the past. When you have company with such people, you lose the respect you have from the decent society.

    Perera Wednesday, 02 September 2020 01:02 PM

A moron on an ego trip. Who wants to invite these leeches to functions anyway

Warren Raed Wednesday, 02 September 2020 03:53 PM

Yeah right. Since the mission of grabbing other people’s businesses, assets and wives was completed during the previous regime, there is nothing more left and therefore now he doesn’t want to be invited. Those days he used to go uninvited to most prominent people’s get togethers.
