The Manager of the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) in Northern Province has been arrested by the CID yesterday in Kilinochchi while accepting an illegal commission payment for selling paddy to small mill owners.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the 47-year-old suspect had demanded Rs. 500,000 from a mill owner.
He said the CID had launched an investigation after they received several complaints agintst the suspect.
It was revealed that the manager had been involved in various malpractices when releasing paddy to small rice mill owners, DIG Rohana said.
The suspect would be produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
