Despite the large number of COVID cases being reported in various parts of the country, Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva said that there is no move to go for a complete lockdown of the country and only some areas such as certain Grama Niladhari Divisions in the respective areas which are identified as high-risk zones would be isolated.

He said it has been decided to isolate those specific areas rather than going for a complete lockdown of the entire police areas.

yes, better to do a complete lockdown once it had spread everywhere!

He is speaking as if he is the medical expert on COVID . That is the state of the country now. Thanks to the 6.9 millions

The appointment of the Commander of the Army to head the task force to fight a virus is pure genius. He locked down the country when the attack was single digit infection and keeps the country open when the infection rate is over 1000. We must be thankful to HE for his wisdom. We are really heading towards Saubhagiye Dekma!!

People will die without food if there is complete lockdown. Last time people had money to store the essentials item, but this time they don't have money.

Why is there no exit curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.? All shops close. markets. Only keep the food shops open.

This is what happens when the leader of the country handovers the resposibility to a person who has no ideas on whats happening...

Can’t the goverment give 80% of wages like uk

ADB Zoysa Friday, 30 April 2021 09:10 AM

They say we can’t go for a lockdown because of the poor economy. Funny how the ordinary people struggling for daily wages have to pay the price in the end for the ridiculous economy in the country. If we are to face the fate of India, it will be the common people who would be fighting the battle for oxygen in the end.

So sorry, but what the Army chief really needed to say was " We shall not hesitate locking down the entire nation if there is an indication to do so to save the community". Please do not try to hide the TRUTH. It is downright shameful. MM

Who is asking for a complete lockdown of the country? No one. World lessons show the only way to slow the spread is short snap lockdowns. Eg. Lockdown Colombo city for 3 days and test high density areas within the city to identify sub clusters and act on them. The 3 days could be over the weekend, so minimise impact on work and the economy. Act now before the bloods in your hands.
