An attempt is being made to promote over 60 policemen, mostly those close to VIPS in the government, on the basis that they were politically victimised by the former regime, Daily Mirror learns.

A list seen by Daily Mirror shows the names of a number of policemen expected to be promoted on the basis that they were victimised by the former government.

Cabinet had this week approved a proposal to implement the decisions and recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate Incidents of political revenge.

Sources said that officers who should be promoted ahead of those on the list have been overlooked. (EASWARAN RUTNAM)
