The Education Ministry had decided to conduct the 2021 GCE Advanced Level examination from October 4 to 30, Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said.

While addressing the media at the Ministry he said the A/L examination was earlier scheduled to be held in August.

Accordingly, the schedules were made to conduct the Grade 5 scholarship examination on October 3 (Sunday) and the 2021 GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) examination on the last week of January 2022, the Minister said.

"Due to COVID pandemic, schools were unable to complete the syllabi. On average, a school operates 200 days a year. But this year it was active for about 150 days. It has been reduced to 130 days in the Western Province.

One of the obstacles to filling this gap were online classes. But they too have not been able to conduct successfully due to lack of internet facilities in many parts of the island," the Minister added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
