England won the World Cup for the first time as they beat New Zealand in a Super Over after a nerve-shredding final ended in a tie at Lord's today.
After Eoin Morgan's side finished on 241 all out in pursuit of New Zealand's 241-8, the final came down to a six-ball shootout for each team. England's Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler took 15 off Trent Boult's over.
Jofra Archer bowled England's over against Martin Guptill and Jimmy Neesham, who smashed a six off the second ball. With two runs required off the final ball, wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and Jason Roy combined to run out Guptill as he came back for the second. Both sides finished on 15 so England won due to a tie-break rule because they hit the most boundaries.
Seriously, the ODI rules must change in the event of game tied!! In my opinion, practically both sides scores are tied even after THE Super OVER!!! Think about this!! If you score in singles doubles or boundaries, Still THE total score is tied!!! Long ago if the ODI game tied, then the team scored with less Outs (Wickets) wins!! Yeah in this case NZ!!! But the super OVER MUST continue ("Sudden Death") till one side win !!! Absurdly RIDICULOUS to decide the ICC world cup winners based on number of boundaries scored!!??? OVER to you ICC !!! Should make the change!!!??

American Major League Baseball 9 inning game if tied, will continue until one team score 1 or more runs than the opponent! Till they win, Even the game goes to 15 or 18 innings!!! Super OVER should continue till you GET a winner by runs or wickets!!

I feel very sorry for the New Zealand team, who played better than England. If God is there then the victory should have gone to New Zealand. This is one of the proofs that God does not exist.

I supported NZ, and of course they deserved the win 241-8 is better than 241-9 ryt?
Srian de Silva Monday, 15 July 2019 10:42 AM
Jude, totally agree with you! The number of wickets lost should have been the criterion... hence NZ is the winner! In any case they played better... bowling was spot on and the fielding was flawless!

This old fellow Anton, from his name a Catholic, who has never lived outside Sri Lanka, always has good words for his white masters. But in all other situations his comments in this paper has always been very negative about his fellow countrymen.
He does not how bad the whites would treat him if he lived in a white country.
