President Maithripala Sirisena will go ahead with the proposal to construct a dedicated military airport in Hingurakgoda, UPFA MP Nimal Siripala de Silva told parliament today.
Speaking during the committee stage debate in the House, the MP who is the former minister of civil aviation and transport said this airport will be of international standards. “It has to be on high standards considering the defence issue in the globe today. Some shout about the resurgence of LTTE but one must consider the developments in the globe with regard to security,” he said in this regard.
He also said lands needed for the expansion of the Ratmalana Airport has been already acquired. “We were able to acquire the lands needed for the expansion without any dispute following the intervention of President Maithripala Sirisena,” the MP said.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

This man was the transport minister before captain cool for 3 1/2 years and did nothing for public transport. I listened to his speech in parliament and all he did was praise Gamarala. First improve public transport. Our stupid politician are obsessed with Highways, Airport and Seaports. Why? Big buck in one go and needed for elections.

On one hand SF is telling that there is only a single fighter jet we own from the WW 2. On the other hand we are ready to build up new military airports. Someone is getting ready to lay the foundation for a another bank heist.
