The number of COVID-19 deaths and infections among people could increase within the next two or three weeks due to their irresponsible behaviour, head of the Public Health Inspectors' (PHI) Union Upul Rohana said.

He said the people treat the present situation is safe and believe it has been brought under control.

"People have not restricted their travelling as they did before December last year. Therefore, there could be a major threat in spreading of the virus in the next couple of weeks or so," he said.

The PHI Union requested the people to restrict their travelling even during the upcoming long weekends and holidays to help prevent the spreading, Upul Rohana added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

There are enough and more parties taking place everyday with all the bells and whistles. No one is bothered about it. What’s the point of restricting traveling?? No one should be above or under the law! Your concern is a blow in the wind!

I think its time to stop blaming innocent general public. When tourists are allowed to come to Sri Lanka from Countries where thousands of cases are reported every day, how can one hope to control the Pandemic? Authorities are to Blame. not public

Good caution and well appreciated. But each one of us have to make our living and attend to our daily needs. You all are doing a good service and people must follow your guidance properly and save themselves and their neighbours.

People will never listen. Just look around, just browse through social media, how many parties, functions are taking place!!!! How many weddings are taking place in the manner like there is no Covid!!! How many people are going on trips, picnics, safaris etc.!!!! Put some proper restrictions in place, otherwise people will listen from this ear

UK, South Africa and now Sri Lankan Covid variant Sunday, 07 February 2021 04:25 PM

Yes. yes "irresponsible behaviour". You mean irresponsible behaviour of the authorities in bring virus infected Ukrainians into the country! How about those "imported" people from neighbouring India who started this snow-balling effect. Until then we had less than 15 deaths. Now blame the innocent public who have been in virtual isolation for 6 months or more.

Stop the parties, weddings and stupid press briefings. People travel for various reasons and not just for a vacation. People will die of starvation , if they are to restrict themselves from economic activities.
